The film Sekai no Okiku is about a love story between a woman Okiku, who lives in a row house in Edo, and a man Chuji, who comes to the row house to buy night soil.
During the Edo era, people cherished and carefully used everything. They even used human excrement as fertilizer and used up limited resources. This lifestyle created a recycling-based society, leading people to lives blessed by nature. This film depicts such a lifestyle of the Edo citizens.
